Renovation of Great Wall at Jiayu Pass Enters Critical Stage

Jiayu Pass, located in Jiayuguan City in northwest China’s Gansu Province, is the starting point of a section of the Great Wall built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). To protect this world cultural heritage, China has spent 2.03 billion yuan on the three-year maintenance project of the Pass since the end of 2011. Currently, the project has entered its critical stage.

According to the report, the project is the largest one since the Pass was set up. The renovation covers ten aspects including renovation of timber architecture of gate towers, repainting of colored drawings, protection of wall body, etc. Meanwhile, traditional techniques used to construct the walls are put in use in case of overprotection, which can cause damage to its original appearance.

The renovation of Jiayu Pass Tower and Wenchang Pavilion has largely been completed. The scenic spot announced that at least one gate tower will be open to tourists when the three are under repair. A student tourist says that the walls of Jiayu Pass among the gobi desert didn’t let him down, he truly felt the charm of this ancient country. However, most tourists choose to explore the Great Wall from Beijing. The most famous and most imposing sections of the Great Wall are located in Beijing. Take a Beijing Great Wall tour, and you will be amazed by the world’s sixth wonder.
